Hi friends!!!! I’ve been on blog hiatus this week while our three munchkins are on winter break. We visited my brother-in-law’s new lake house, skied a couple days, and ate and ate and ate. The weather has been amazing in New England and it’s been so nice to be outside!!
Gunstock Mountain with gorgeous Lake Winnipesaukee in the distance.
I hope you’ve had a good week too!
Today I’m back with the Paint Color Crush of the week which is one of my all-time favorites:
(this is the color I used on our bedroom walls and 4 years later I still love it!!)

A few months ago I slapped some leftover paint on the vanity in the bathroom right off our kitchen, and ever since then I’ve been scheming about a transformation for this humble little room.
Instagram photo from 19 weeks ago – it still looks like this!!
The quick back story: we were planning on gutting this bathroom as part of a major kitchen renovation, but after hiring a couple of kitchen designers to draw up plans and quotes for us, figuring out that what we really want is going to cost somewhere around $120,000, and mulling it over for a long time, that plan was put on hold indefinitely. Hello college tuitions for 3 children starting this August. The NEW plan is to rework what we already have and make it more aesthetically pleasing with a small budget, a little elbow grease and whole lot of ingenuity!!!
Did I mention this little bathroom that all our guests use ALSO doubles as our laundry room? (hugely prevalent in 80s colonials around here. Worst design ever!)
Here she is in all her peach glory on Day 1 of Peach Pit ownership:
After a quick paint job to the walls, trim, doors, and vanity we’ve had this tidy but very boring bathroom awaiting something grander for SEVEN years!
Now that we’ve decided not to gut this space, it’s time to give the old girl some love! This is what I’m thinking for our humble little bathroom/laundry room.
Navy + White + A Bit Of Coastal + A Bit Of Metallics
Sconces | Mercury Glass Knobs | Roman Shades | Wool Rug | Faucet
Gentleman’s Grey is the star of the show on the vanity, with creamy white walls and a white linen roman shade keeping it all light and bright.
SPLURGE on streamlined, beautiful brass sconces that make this laundry room a wee bit more sophisticated! I already installed a brushed nickel faucet and love how the mercury glass cabinet knobs with a touch of brass tie the metal finishes together (and would look so pretty against the tealy blue vanity!)
SAVE by DIYing the board and batten. My very first solo carpentry project was installing board and batten style wainscot to our foyer and it is a great project even if you have very rudimentary DIY skills!
I’m going to do this box/grid/square style of board and batten all the way up to the ceiling and add crown moulding, as well as new baseboards.
The other major player in this room is the mirror. I made this shell mirror for our master bathroom years ago……..
and have always wanted to make another one with oyster shells like the Ballard Designs one on the design board.
This mirror has sadly been discontinued. If you love this look and have no desire to attempt one yourself, Etsy has some one-of-a-kind shell mirror options!!
Below is Crazy Wonderful Shelley’s bone inlay-like mirror that has seriously rocked my world ever since I first saw it. Isn’t it glorious?? Isn’t Shelley the most amazing DIYer on the planet? I think so too. (She hand cut that curved top with a jigsaw!) If I can’t track down massive amounts of oyster shells this is the other mirror option I’m thinking about. Now if only I can get Shelley to come visit and make me one 🙂
HONORABLE MENTIONS…..
I’d really like to get a nice quality wool rug in this space to make it feel less utilitarian. I’ve been searching for something with a pattern since this room sees a lot of traffic, kids’ football uniforms, etc. The rug on the design board is from Home Decorators (currently offering 20% off and free shipping on all rugs until March 6 by the way!).
This is another contender (possibly too inky blue for my beloved Gentleman’s Gray but I’d love to use it somewhere)….
This is a fun, affordable option in a similar colorway (reviews say the navy is a bit more tealy blue than shown in the picture, which would be perfect for the color du jour!)

Love the direction you are going. Etsy is a great source for oyster shells.

I love your plans, Lisa, and Gentemans Gray is a great color. Isn’t it crazy how fast a renovation can add up? My husband is still recovering from our kitchen renovation almost 2 years ago!
Enjoy your weekend. We are expecting crazy warm temps in the 70s here in NJ. You just know we are going to get slammed with snow in March!

oooohh it all looks so good Lisa especially the rug on your mood board. I like the others but love this one. It’s got more depth to it somehow. Are you going to make the board and batten wall yourself? I’d love to try it out on a small space first like our tiny downstairs bathroom so I can’t wait to see yours first. Mine is waaaay down on the list of things to do but I really want a board and batten wall in dark blue with maybe some antiqued gold somewhere on a trim etc. Good luck with your room.. The mood board looks amazing !
Cheers.
