My One Room, Three Ways

Have you been following along with One Room, Three Ways?
I for one love seeing how vastly different the same room can look with some tweaking.
Tomorrow the 7 bloggers who have shared their rooms 3 ways are hosting a linky party where you and I can share a room in our own home and change it up using what we already own.
I’ve been on a bit of a decorating break from my living room. I have a vision, it’s just going to take a while to get there. In the meantime, I’m mixing up what we have to make it work for now
(and I’m thankful that even though it’s not decorated the way I want, we’ve got furniture to sit on!)
Inspired by all the rooms we’ve seen three ways this week, I played around a bit with the layout of our living room and my $0 budget and this is what I came up with.
*********************************************************************************
Number One…….
The couch and rattan chairs need to be retired to the kids’ space in the basement, but for now they are a comfy place to put our feet up. There is also a huge TV armoire (that now houses a computer) in the corner that will eventually make it’s way to our basement too.

*********************************************************************************

Number Two…………
so much lighter and brighter without the rattan chairs. Even the armoire is not so overwhelming now.
Those white chairs are borrowed from the dining room  –  I love their mildly wrinkled, casual slip-coveredness!
*********************************************************************************
And finally, change up number three.
Playing with the layout and bringing in different pieces of furntiture has really helped me work through what I ultimately want for this room, so I kind of cheated on the third version of this room.
Can I share my current daydream with you???

{Bookcase wall:  Bliss At Home}

The rug is part of the “vision”. I got it for my birthday against my husband’s protests that he was NOT giving me a rug for my birthday. It’s exactly what I wanted – neutral, cushy, soft on bare feet, and makes the room so much more cozy. (And a great price for an 8×10 rug!) Thanks Honey!

That black chair on the board is representative of this beauty I got from my in-laws that now has a new coat of paint, and new cushions that I just picked up from the reupholsterer!!

The two big things I would like for this room “someday”:

1. A wraparound library wall. You might recognize this version of the Ikea Billy bookcase hack from Bliss At Home that is on the design board – I LOVE it! Kristin and her husband did such an amazing job – the library lights incorporated into the top of the design and the fact that the bookcases  go the ceiling make them so custom looking. I am also considering hiring Sawdust Girl to walk me through the construction of bookcases, as Linda has done, but right now her queue is closed. One way or another, DIY built in bookcases will be part of this room!

2. A sectional. Even though this room is TV-less, if my husband Mark and I are sitting in here, the kids are drawn to this room like a moth to a flame. Everyone is always in there, which I love and want to encourage for lounging, reading, Scrabble, card games, chatting.

Casual, comfortable, yet pulled together enough for company – that is the goal.
Black, whites, natural elements and a touch of color – that is the plan!

This exercise of changing up the room, prompted by One Room, Three Ways, has actually made me excited about our living room again! Thank you to all the hosts for sharing your own rooms and ideas!

I am in LOVE with that bookcase wall you featured! Been toying with the idea of doing that in my living room (remember that room I wanted to makeover in a million years?? Yeah. That one. ;).

I just love your living space-- so fresh and inviting!
