Hi friends!! I think every single May I write on this blog about how crazy this month is in my house….4 birthdays, 1 anniversary, lacrosse, baseball, and end-of-year school events, all wedged between Mothers and Fathers Days. This fuzzy headed sweet baby boy….
….turned FOURTEEN on Sunday, a fact I am still trying to wrap my brain around! Since day 1 he has been a constant source of amusement and joy for all of us. Except for the fact that he has taken to calling his parents by their first names as of late….he’s a keeper!
For the past five days we’ve had 3 extra teenagers staying with us which has been such a joy – I love having a house full of kids! – and meanwhile I am getting my mom’s house ready to put on the market this week (finally!!) And then there’s this little project I shared on Instagram that is awaiting my attention!
{The gravel patio/fire pit project – read more about it here!}
I’ve also been wrapping up some details on a family room design for my client Linda. You may remember her living room from the 2015 spring One Room Challenge (that included this bar area, of course!)
We’re currently working on Linda’s family room, and since the electrician was already scheduled to change out some lighting in there, I gently suggested we go ahead and replace the boob lights in the adjacent foyer while we had him there. (For those of you who are new to the term “boob light”……)
We batted around a few options and when I emailed Linda my all-time fave, the Moravian star light from Ballards, it was love at first sight for Linda too and she ordered them, bam, done, love this decision-making girl! They were installed yesterday and after getting this text from Linda I had to run over there and see their awesomeness in person. Between the mercury glass, the scale of them and the mottled light they give off, they are gorgeous!!
(New paint, a closet-turned mudroom, and some other fun changes are coming to this space down the road!)
Linda’s husband and boys are tall (her 14 year old is already over 6′ and growing by the minute), we decided flush mount lights (ceiling mounted without a drop) are the way to go in this house with 8 foot ceilings, which are common in older homes here in the Northeast. What a challenge it is to find foyer-worthy flush mount lighting! I have been sharing my faves with friends and clients like a broken record – tomorrow I’ll share a round up of some of my favorites for those of you facing the lower ceiling issue too.
In the meantime Ballards is having a 15% off sale today if you want to splurge on that pretty mercury glass Moravian star light above!!!!! I wish it was in my budget this month, but no such luck. (It comes in brass too which is a stunner!)
Have a great day lovelies!

It’s always a challenge to find an interesting light fixture for lower ceiling heights. The fixture you selected is beautiful and I like the glow it casts onto the ceiling! What a full month and full house it’s been! Happy greetings for all the celebrations in your household! 🙂
