I have followed today’s creative guest through three houses and countless insanely awesome DIY projects, like this thing of beauty (DIY Inlay Mirror) and am so happy to have her here today!

Hey guys! I’m Shelley from the blog Crazy Wonderful, and I’m super excited Lisa asked me to join her series today! The heart of our home is by far our family’s most favorite part of our house. The living room and kitchen is where you’ll find us 90% of the time. TV and food, what can I say.
I love to DIY and work with what I already have as much as possible. If I can make it, I will. When I’m saving money in a lot of areas I don’t feel bad splurging on other items. The living room is filled with a mix of high (well, high to me) and low. Everything has to be kid and dog friendly since this is where all the action takes place. And while we have a dedicated play room, toys still find their way down here so having clever toy storage is a must. Baskets with lids are perfect for this. You can kind of see the large chest like basket under the three round mirrors in between the couch and arm chair. Just toss the toys in. Lifesaver.
Since this is where we’re at all the time, a TV is a must. Adding a gallery wall around the TV keeps it from sticking out like a sore thumb. I don’t think you have to spend an arm and leg on art for gallery walls. Most of mine are DIY’s and photos I’ve taken. The pretty black watercolors were a gift from my aunt who is an artist. Same thing with frames. Try working with what you have instead of feeling the need to buy all new matching frames. A mixture of styles is more interesting anyway. Some of mine were spray painted to get the look I was after.
The sunburst mirror over the fireplace was one of the first DIY’s I did on my blog and its still one of my favorites. Do you see those baskets on the side of the TV stand? More toy storage!
What makes this space a favorite for me is finally having an open floor plan from the living room to kitchen. That was No. 1 on our wish list when we were looking for a new house. I hated feeling isolated in the kitchen. Now the kids can play their hearts out within eyesight while I’m in the kitchen cooking up a healthy organic meal made from scratch tossing frozen chicken nuggets into the oven. It’s perfect.

Beautiful right?! No wonder this is Shelley’s fave corner of her abode – I covet those high ceilings and all the windows. This woman has some serious DIY chops and great attainable ideas on making a house a home (like the fabulous source for those curtains, so good!)
