Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Are you Irish? Or Irish just for today? My parents are from the Emerald Isle and it’s a place so near and dear to my heart. Read more about my family and how we came to spend summers in Ireland when I was growing up here and here.
I’ve been busy at work all week renovating our mudroom and with only two weeks left in the $100 Room Challenge, I’ve got a lot left to do!
Mark helped me to carefully demo the awkward existing shelves (those suckers were hard to remove!!)………
….and I’ve been rebuilding them into a bench with shoe and boot storage. This very basic skeleton looks really hideous right now doesn’t it? That’s part of the fun of building…..seeing the vision come to life!
PS phone pictures with bad lighting make for really good “before” photos 🙂
Since it’s Paint Color Crush Friday, springtime is officially three days away, and it’s St. Patrick’s Day – how about daydreaming with me about an outdoor space all about this color?????
Shamrock!! I couldn’t wait to use this color!!!
You know I’m a fan of painted floors…..I painted our garage steps and mudroom floor twice since we’ve lived here – first “mud” brown and light blue, and currently the green version.
green + swinging + rocking + relaxing
Porch Swing | Pillow Covers | Tray Table | Lantern | Rocking Chairs | Copper Straws | String Lights
I have this Swaying Palms fabric on our deck chairs. While it seemed to be everywhere in the design world in 2016, I have yet to tire of it and it’s versatility to play well with tons of other colors and patterns.
SAVE with my favorite source for these outdoor pillow covers – a great price and they are well made.
SPLURGE on a gorgeous indoor/outdoor lantern light that will take your porch up a notch! I have loved the PB Bolton lantern light ever since we took our kids on a weekend adventure to an island on the coast of Maine. The Inn (pictured below) had a few of them and they are seriously so pretty in real life!
Inn At Diamond Cove | Portland, Maine
HONORABLE MENTION: these copper straws, aren’t they a fun detail for your summer entertaining? Or was I wooed by the palm box??
Another fun find is the tray table as a serving cart. Set up all your fave bevies here and let everyone help themselves for a casual, easy breezy fun atmosphere.
Does this get you so fired up for spring and summer and enjoying your outdoor spaces?? I know, me too, I can’t wait!
THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY
There’s music in my heart all day,
I hear it late and early,
It comes from fields are far away,
The wind that shakes the barley.
Above the uplands drenched with dew
The sky hangs soft and pearly,
An emerald world is listening to
The wind that shakes the barley.
Above the bluest mountain crest
The lark is singing rarely,
It rocks the singer into rest,
The wind that shakes the barley.
Oh, still through summers and through springs
It calls me late and early.
Come home, come home, come home, it sings,
The wind that shakes the barley.

That is my new favorite poem and always will be forever more.
