A Fresh New Beginning

In September, my parents-in-law sold the house in which they had raised their kids and lived in for almost 40 years.

It was a great home and it was hard to leave, but today a whole new adventure starts for them as they move into a newly built house in a seaside golf community. I’m SO excited for them!

They are crazy enough to trust my opinion on things like paint and tile colors, and I’ve had a lot of fun accompanying them to pick out the finishes for the house. I’m also helping them update some of their furnishings and go in a new direction with their color palette, and can’t wait to see it all come together!!

Today I thought I’d share with you the model home that is a very similar layout to my mother-and-father-in-laws’ new home. They love the color scheme of the model and we will be going in a similar direction with their house, incorporating some new pieces into the gorgeous furniture they already have.

My father-in-law was an engineer with Polaroid for over three decades, and I’d love to display his collection of vintage cameras in here.

 The style of this board and batten was the inspiration for the B&B I installed in my own foyer.

My in-laws’ fireplace is very similar to this one, as you will see. Isn’t it lovely?
 
 The other side of the fireplace has space for a cozy little reading nook in the model, but in my in-laws’ home this wall will be the entrance to a sunroom!

On the other side of the fireplace in the model is this nook. In their house is a French door that leads to a screened-in porch.
And here it is!

Those cabinets are actually white, and the granite is GOR.GEOUS.
{If you think I’m living vicariously through my parents-in-law and their new kitchen, you’d be 100% correct. Did I ever mention my own kitchen countertops are BOLOGNA colored??

The long and short of it is: this whole house is so lovely! And I’m so thrilled that my mother-in-law and father-in-law get to live here!!! 
I hope to share some snippets of how we refresh my parents-in-law’s older furniture and make them work in their brand new, beautiful new home.
First things first, we need to find a spot for this ASAP, dontcha think????

    The model home is gorgeous Lisa! I think the camera idea is a good one…I love the way cameras look displayed….with framed black and whites….gorgeous….
    and of course they trust you…you are an amazing decorator and designer.

    It's beautiful and what great fun that you get to be such a big part of it. The screened in porch sounds fabulous. Can't wait to see what ideas you have for them! Did you recommend painting any doors black? 🙂

    What a lovely home! It's fun to live vicariously in helping with the decor, isn't it? Just like I will be living vicariously when you go to Hawaii. Except not quite as fun… 😉
