Hello friends and welcome to Thanksgiving week!
Today I am featuring a favorite corner of home from my sweet friend Katie. Did you happen to catch her living room in this fall’s One Room Challenge or her gorgeous bathroom remodel last spring?
Katie is definitely a fun blogger to follow…..I highly recommend her!
Without further ado…..
I was so excited to hear about Lisa’s new series on Shine Home Love and even more so when she asked me to participate! My name is Katie and I blog over at Miss Dixie. I live with my family in a fixer upper that we bought in the Spring of 2014. While we have come a long, long way…we still have so many things we would like to do. One thing we really thought about this fall was making our home work for us. We bought this house thinking we had way more space than the last one, so how in the world were we already feeling cramped? After doing lots of thinking, we switched our den {a former ORC room!} and our dining room to maximize our usage of each room.
We transformed the former dining room into a “keeping room”, right off the kitchen with room for my son to play and a cozy seating area too.
I wanted to feature today my little nook in the keeping room, where I have my desk set up and also some comfy wing backs for seating. This room faces our front yard and gets the most beautiful light throughout the day. I really enjoy this room as another seating area for this very reason. As most people do, we were barely using our formal dining room and all of that beautiful light was going unnoticed.
And if you were wondering how this room differs from it’s former location, we left a coffee table out, making room for toys and books that can stay on the floor all day with out me going crazy! Weeks has all his toys right there…it’s his space which makes me happy.
What particularly got me excited about this feature was taking a moment to appreciate a space that makes me happy, no matter how grand or small it is!
I wanted to keep the desk simple so I have room for my laptop, and making out grocery and Christmas lists this season! I have all that I need…a touch of greenery {lemon cypress trees}, sunlight and happy photos of my family.
The heavy linen drapes tie in with our adjacent living room, but I added a greek key trim on these for a fun touch and to give them a slightly different look.
Thank you again for asking me to participate in this fun feature Lisa! It could not have come at a better time as we think about all we have to be thankful for.
