Happy Monday my dears! I hope you had a wonderful Thankgiving!
We had family stay with us for a few days, and then Mark and I got back to work on our fireplace remodel and I can’t wait to show you the progress!!
(It’s about a million miles away from done but my vision is coming to life!)
But first! Let’s ease back into reality with a gorgeous favorite corner of home shall we?
Today I am beyond thrilled to share my friend Kathy and one of her favorite spots. Kathy is so genuine and I love how she makes her house a warm place to land for her whole family.
Okay and I’m also *slightly* obsessed with her chandelier so there’s that. 🙂
Enjoy!!!!!!!
Hi everyone First of all I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Lisa for asking me to share my favorite spot for her Shine Home Love series! My name is Kathy and I blog over at The Daily Nest. I’ve taken a little break from blogging but plan to get back into it after Christmas. When I thought about which room I would submit, I have to admit it was a hard question. You see I love ALL my rooms of my home. But one of the things I love the most about our home really isn’t a room. It’s the fact that it isn’t new, it isn’t large, it isn’t grand, it isn’t in a swanky neighborhood, but it’s home! It’s filled with memories of bringing our youngest home from the hospital, special birthdays,Thanksgivings and Christmas, and little boys jumping in the pool wanting me to score their splash!
That’s what I love about our home, the memories it holds.
Our dining room, which just came to be in the past year has been an evolution of changes. When we bought our home 27 years ago it was the master bedroom. Then when I became pregnant with our second son we built a new master bedroom and turned this room into our son’s room. When he grew up and moved out we needed an office, so it worked out well that way for years. Then through the years our family grew even more. We gained a daughter in law and now three beautiful Granddaughters. So one day I asked my husband if it would be possible to turn the office into a family dining room. It worked great functionally because it has double french doors that open to the main living room. So being the wonderful, supportive and skillful carpenter that he is.
He made it happen!
The built ins were inspired by some built ins that I had found on Houzz.com. The room is painted Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy and the board and batten is painted BM White Dove. I chose to paint the bead board that’s in the back of the built ins Hale Navy to give them some interest and to make the accessories POP!!
This is the view looking into the living room with the double french doors. I think the doors give the room a little mystique!
The large farm table is from World Market and I couldn’t love it more! It seats up to eight people comfortably! And my chandelier was a find from Overstock. When I found it, I heard angels sing!!
All the chairs are from Ikea.
The large shelf that is under the Z Gallerie mirror was made by my husband. We saw a similar one in an HGTV dream home. Its nice and large and serves a buffet when we have a crowd. He did such an amazing job making it. And I love it because it was made with his own two hands. He also did all the board and batten in this room and in our entire house.
Here the room is ready for a family get together! Candles are lit, music is playing and all that’s missing is the laughter of my beautiful family!
Thank you so much Lisa for allowing me to share my ever changing room for your wonderful series SHINE HOME LOVE! It was truly an honor!
Have a great day everyone!
