In this new year I feel like it’s really time that I pull our house together – not just paint and organize, but actually finish rooms. This is our fourth house that we’ve owned in the sixteen years of our marriage, and this time around I really want to take my time and create a space that we love. One of my biggest challenges has surprisingly been going with a neutral palette. My goal was to create a soft backdrop and add in pops of color, but as we all know the devil is in the details!
I’ve mentioned before that through Darlene of Fieldstone Hill I have started thinking of my house in terms of the WORDS I want it to express, versus a particular style like traditional, country, or modern. Our words include casual, comfortable, pretty, welcoming, homey, organized, meaningful and pulled together.
As part of her Overcoming Decorating Paralysis series, Darlene wrote this post on creating a signature style board from your Pinterest files to help you define your style a bit more. I chose a bunch of photos that really speak to me from my Pinterest boards, and it’s interesting to see a theme emerge from them! What do you see?

Gorgeous! I love getting a glimpse into your sense of style all in one place. Those pics are so airy and light, love the pop of color and pattern, too!

Lisa, first of all I love your style! I think I actually have a few of those pinned myself! Second, I think this is an excellent way to really define your style. When I scan through my Pinterest boards, I definitely see a pattern…along with a few stray things thrown in! I am going to try doing this too! Have a great weekend!

The first word that came to my mind was light! I love it. I'm working on really creating the space in our home this year to be both functional, as well as nice. We have too much of a lived in feel, and not enough of a relaxed feel :/
I think I'll go try this pinterest board idea now.

Y'all sound like us! We are on our 5th house, and have been married almost 14 years! That's a lot of re-decorating 🙂
