Hey friends and welcome to a new week!
Today I’m excited to share a favorite corner of a home that exudes confidence in decorating and has so much personality. Be sure to check out the library when you are done taking a peek at this space!!
I’m so happy to have the fun and fabulous Arielle of Scotch & Nonsense here to visit today!
When I started working on our living room, I was sure I wanted something bright and feminine. We already had several dark and masculine rooms in our house, and I was looking for balance. We started with a backdrop of whites, grays, and metallics, then added in bright colors in the form of a teal painting and lots of pink.
And I hated it.
Turns out, bright and peppy really isn’t my thing. I love it in other people’s homes, but I missed the dark, cool tones that I’d created in the rest of my house. So out went the lovely but-not-for me pink pillows, out went the hideous teal painting (I’m allowed to say that – I painted it). Out with everything that felt wrong.
All that remained were the gray walls (in my favorite Benjamin Moore Wickham Gray), the divine white velvet sofa, the Milo Baughman style chairs, and the glam brass tables I found on Craiglist for a steal. From there, I added the brown, textured pillows, the black lamp, Moroccan shag rug, and brass sconces. For a bit of color, I made a pair of large green paintings. The room is small and doesn’t allow for many decor objects, but the bust on the mantel and sculpture on our coffee table act as small statement pieces.
Now this is the room where I sip coffee in my bathrobe and scroll Instagram while my dogs play in the yard on Sunday mornings. It’s where my husband and I play cards and have a cocktail before a date. It’s where we snack on appetizers with guests. Every time I come into this room I feel good about the changes we made to it, and it’s one of my favorite reminders to always go with my gut.
Doesn’t this space have the coolest vibe? The glass and brass coffee table, leather and chrome chairs, and vintage fireplace? So different from my house and yet I totally love it! It’s always fun to take a peek into a pretty and interesting home.
Thanks for your sharing one of your favorite spaces of home Arielle!!

That has happened to me too Cassie – more times than I care to admit. But sometimes you don’t know until you try a color out for a while!
