Here we are with only week left of the One Room Challenge!
I’m keeping this update short and sweet because I’m mired in the details of finishing up the last 20 percent of our family room – you know – all those little details that you can sit on for MONTHS, or even years? The perfect piece of art, the right lamps, pillows that have that exact shade of blue you were thinking of???
I’m so happy that I decided at the last minute (okay, a week late) to jump into this challenge because it has given me a deadline to finish up those tedious details.
So far I’ve crossed curtains, a rug, pillows, and reupholstering two chairs off my list.
AND………I ordered “art” but sadly, it’s not going to be delivered until after the big ORC reveal next week. I’m using this photo I took with my phone of a beach on Cape Cod and posted to Instagram last year:
(I already attempted to make something artsy with it a month or so ago but it was a total DIY FAIL, so this is round 2!) I will keep you in the loop about that fun and mammoth project post-ORC!
I also scored a piece of blue & white pottery to add to my collection of 1. On the clearance rack, holla!! Gotta love the red sticker on the one thing you were looking for!!!
It’s time to tackle the bookcase styling (Pam, I’m sending my private jet to pick you up for this leg of the race!!) and I’m also getting out the power tools and building doors for the bottom of the bookcases after a call to my own personal This Old House, aka my favorite father-in-law.
(I love the tv there, but I also despise the tv there. Do you feel my pain???)
A new coffee table is also on my list of to-dos, and I’ve narrowed down some fab contenders which I’ll share with you tomorrow.
SO HERE WE ARE! The last week of The Last 20% Challenge.
THE LAST 20% HIT LIST
Finish reupholstering the two chairs
Lighten up and bring some blues to our brown leather couch
Finish the art project for over the couch (ordered)
Figure out what else is going on the walls (still thinking on that one)
Build or buy doors for the lower shelves of the bookcases for hidden storage
Style the bookcases
Rug – Pillows – Curtains
Buy a new coffee table
Check out the 20 One Room Challenge designers on Wednesdays at Calling It Home, and the 200 or so linking participants on Thursdays!
Thanks for checking in and good luck to everyone who is in the ORC – you can do it!!

Your bookcases look so pretty already! I feel you on the tv thing. It’s a necessary evil. Can’t wait to see your reveal next week!

We really do enjoy TV as a family, just wish the TV itself was less obtrusive in the design! I love what you did in your sweet pea’s room Stephanie! You are seriously so talented!

I am finally taking a moment to comment….so glad you jumped in, too! That photograph makes me miss the Northeast so much. Love it. Yes, I feel your tv pain. I am always struggling with that, too. After Pam leaves your house, can she swing by mine? Looking forward to next week….and killer blue & white score.
Lisa says
Thanks for stopping by Linda! I can’t believe it’s week 6, a frenzy is surely happening all over blogland this week! Can’t wait for all the reveals. So fun.

Red Tag Happy Dance!!! I know how you feel about the tv, but I really do think it looks great there. Once you style the shelves, I bet you don’t give it another thought. Up top on building your own doors! They’re gonna look awesome!
Carol @ CAD INTERIORS says
Love the ginger jar!! The bookcase styling will look great. 🙂 Excited for your reveal!

Lisa,
I am so excited for you – wish I would’ve jumped in too! I found out about it a little too late, but if I had pushed myself, might have been able to do it!
Can’t wait to see it all finished:))

Jeanne, I was so excited to be able to hide the cords behind the paneling when we remodeled the fireplace. They drive me crazy too!
