Craigslist Dining Table Makeover

Well here it is….after a year of listening to me wax on about how I needed a big table for my family, after looking at 27,562 tables in stores, after weighing whether to buy new, finding a fabulous used table or having one custom made, I finally conned my husband into making a road trip to buy this beauty that I found on Craigslist.

It met my criteria:  solid wood, and extendable with two leaves.
It also came with this sweet 70s speckled finish. Project!
After stripping and sanding, it’s natural beauty wooed me,
but in the end a dark walnut stain won out,
and we love how it anchors our light and neutral dining room!

Once they were stripped, I discovered that the legs were a different species of wood than the top and didn’t take the dark walnut stain like the oak, so after mulling over the options with my good friend, Pinny von Pinterest, I stumbled across this photo:

and decided to go with a black base.

It was moved into the house on Saturday morning, and on Saturday night we had our dear friends over to help us christen it.

With the leaves in we estimate we can fit 12-14 people at this table!
It’s just what I imagined….it can get dressed up or be casual for our daily living.
My mother asked me today if we plan on using placemats on it all the time. HA! No way. This table is about as shiny as it’s ever going to be. It’s about to earn a patina from a family living life around it every single day, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Cheers, to many happy times around your own table with the ones you love!

I'm so envious. We're looking for the same thing right now. It's hard to find a 12 ft table that isn't thousands of dollars. Congrats on finding that beauty!!
