here is the deepest secret nobody knows.
here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide.
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart.
i carry your heart.
i carry it in my heart.

I truly can’t believe how fast the childhood of my babies has gone so far. I want my kids to grow up and fondly remember all the goofy things I did just to make their childhood fun, so I try my best to make holidays silly and joyful. For my husband I love to make dinner a little more special than usual, because why not put a little extra effort into our relationship? Here are some ideas to bring a little silliness and love to your kitchen table and the loves of your life. I hope you enjoy this list.
1. Heart-Shaped Eggs
Serve up some love at breakfast with these egg (or mini pancake) molds at Williams-Sonoma (you know how I love their gadgets!)
2. Heart-Shaped Fruit. Cut cantaloupe, watermelon, thinly sliced apple, pineapple, etc. with mini-cookie cutters, or slice strawberries in half and arrange in a heart on the plate.
(My 12 year old will roll his eyes but we all know he’ll love it – it’s simply more fun to eat fruit that’s cut into shapes, and giggle to yourself about how your mom is a dork!)
3. Linzer Torte Cookies (nut-free version) – I’ll share this recipe tomorrow!
5. Strawberry Milk
Buy this as a “special treat”:
or if your kids aren’t big fans of strawberry milk, as mine are not, just add a bit of red food coloring to their milk and garnish with a strawberry.
My mom’s favorite dessert ever!
This is one of my family’s favorites, and since my husband loves loves loves himself some chocolate, and I love him, this is definitely the ONE for this Valentines Day.
FYI – it must be chilled overnight so make it on Sunday!
Let the kids make them into Valentines masterpieces!
And if you don’t have the time or energy to make the dough yourself – there is NO SHAME in taking the easy way out! Give yourself a break, sister!
10. Beef Tenderloin Roast with Port Wine Sauce
Make a fabulous meal for your beloved(s) and give yourself some love too! This is definitely a special occasion meal and is simply divine! (I made this on Sunday and my family was swooning over it. I can’t locate the exacty recipe online to link to, so I’ll post the recipe with printable link tomorrow if you’re interested!)
Photo: Cooking Light, however the recipe I’ll post tomorrow is not from this source.
Are you hungry now? Yeah, me too!
