Mangia Mondays:: My Go-To Appetizers

Hi friends, I hope you all had a great weekend and all re-charged for the week ahead!  I myself am feeling might grateful for the well being of my family and home after seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast.  My thoughts and prayers are with all the families who lost loved ones, are displaced from their homes as we head into the cold weather season, and who face rebuilding their lives and businesses after this crazy natural disaster came out of nowhere and rocked their world.  The randomness of nature's fury is a reminder that something like this could strike any one of us and change our lives in a moment.  If like me, your heart goes out to these folks, you may consider donating to the Red Cross today.  Click on this link to make a donation of any size to aid in the relief efforts.

This year as we head into the holiday season I am making a conscious effort to be grateful for my many blessings, and to make Thanksgiving and Christmas less stressful and actually enjoy the people I love, by planning, organizing and keeping things simple.

One of the things I do around the holidays is pull out all my recipes and envision the elaborate dishes I want to make.  I love to cook, but I have learned over the years that Thanksgiving morning or Christmas Eve is NOT a good time to try a new, involved recipe that blows up your kitchen and prevents you from getting in the shower at a reasonable time!!

For your sanity and mine, I thought I'd compile some tried-and-true recipes for quick reference around the holidays.  That way, we can spend less time looking for the perfect thing to make for Thanksgiving at Mom's house and more time enjoying the company of our friends and family.  Over the next few weeks I'll share links to recipes that my family loves and requests time and again.

Lisa, I think the holidays at your house must be incredible! I am not hosting this year for Thanksgiving or for Christmas but I think I could experiment a little with my own family on Christmas Eve! Happy Monday!

Wow, Lisa ~ thanks for the great collection of your favorites. Ina's crab cakes sound delish, have you ever made ahead and frozen them? I've been there rushing to the shower at the last minute...ugh!

Great list of appetizers Lisa! Sometimes I just get so caught up looking for good ideas that I waste so much time. I will definitely try some of yours!
