Fridays have become Kitchen Dreaming Day around here. In the near future I have a few more Real Kitchen Renovation tours that I’m excited to share with you! Today, let’s chat about an aspect of current kitchens that people either love or hate: a desk area.
Many newer kitchens have a designated counter and cabinetry that serves as a family command center. While some people love having a spot to check emails, organize mail, and charge their phones, others find these little areas to be chaos-collectors, a dumping ground that gets piled high with everybody’s miscellany.
So tell me, how do you feel about them?
I had a little one in our last house that was like a magnet for hair elastics, rogue Legos, unorganized mail, books, and this and that. The design lacked organization and drove me nuts. But I am inspired by my friend Tracy’s well designed kitchen desk area and would like to work one into our remodel.
An area nearby, but a safe distance away from food prep is on my wish list, so I can look at a recipe on my laptop without worrying about spilling vegetable oil all over it. I also need a spot to manage the family calendar, store my cookbooks, and charge everyone’s electronics.
A little somethin somethin like these would do just fine!
