Does anyone else just love lighting?? This was one of my favorite parts of planning our new kitchen. The finishing details like cabinet hardware and lighting really do made a room and diving into all those design choices is so fun.
I ended up going in a completely different direction that I originally planned from oversized with a black finish to understated in aged brass, and once I decided to go that route I was overwhelmed with how many beautiful choices there are for brass lighting! A bit of brass brings in some balance and warmth to a white kitchen, and I am especially fond of aged brass that has a little patina to it. We love how the Hudson Valley Light fixtures we ended up with feel like they have a bit of yesteryear soul to them.
They are especially pretty in the evening!
I hoarded inspiration for YEARS before we finally made it to our kitchen remodel and appreciate different styles, from vintage reproduction to more modern and sleek fixtures. Today I thought I’d share a few of my favorite brass options for pendant lights to help those of you embarking on a kitchen renovation, or just updating your lighting, narrow down all the choices!

Many of these lighting styles can be found at various price points, so if you fall in love with one that is way out of your price range, open yourself up to the possibility of a similarly styled one elsewhere. Use the pricey one as your inspiration piece – you might not find an exact replica at a lower price, but often you can get the LOOK for less!!
Another tip for finding the best lights for your space – when shopping online keep an eye out for flexible return policies. I ordered and returned 2 other sets of pendant lights for our kitchen before landing on THE ONES :). Seeing the lights in your actual space can sometimes make or break it for you, like the large globe lights I ordered that turned out to look way too big in my kitchen. There might be a bit of trial and error but in the end the lighting is a huge design element and you should LOVE them!
For my design clients and friends who are not on board with brass, I have similar roundup posts coming up soon for great lighting options in other finishes!
Have a great day lovelies. One of our college kids has already headed back to school and another goes tomorrow so it’s laundry and packing madness around here today!

I love the featured brass and milk glass schoolhouse pendants for my white kitchen and white island. It is beautiful. My kitchen table which is a 4 claw feet antique oak table is located about 8 feet away from the school house lights. I’m struggling with what chandelier to place over the table. Any suggestions?
Much appreciated,
Cathy

Hi Catherine, your kitchen sounds lovely! If you’re doing milk and brass pendants over your island perhaps a brass fixture for over the table? Any of these would be pretty with the old school look of milk glass:

This one that is white and brass would be beautiful too:

@Lisa,
Thank you for your response to my email. Your suggestions confirmed my thoughts and how I needed that! One more thing, it appears that your kitchen cabinets feature brass crystal/glass knobs. Could you share with me the details. The combination is beautiful.
Best to you and thanks again,
Catherine
