Welcome to the holiday edition of
My Five Favorites that I am hosting along with
Kris @ Driven By Decor
Pam @ Simple Details
Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles
and our very special guest,
the lovely Rene @ Cottage & Vine!
Today we are all sharing a few ways to bring some holiday cheer to your home!
1 || TUCK FRESH EVERGREENS EVERYWHERE
With or without flowers they make the house feel so festive!
We get a fresh tree, and I always save the trimmings, as well as rummaging around my yard and my mom’s yard for varied evergreens and then tuck them all over the house – I use them on the mantle, in a jar by the bathroom sink, at the kitchen sink, tucked into my bookshelves. If you don’t have any evergreens nearby to clip from, look for bunches of them at the grocery store or the big box hardware stores.
2 || PUT OUT LITTLE TREATS
Bowls of Christmas Hershey Kisses, candy canes, or a fresh bowl of mini marshmallows
JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT
make this time of year feel special.
(They don’t last long in my house!)
3 || GROUP ORNAMENTS HERE AND THERE
A bowl full of ornaments on the coffee table, a few added to the bookshelves, or a bunch dangled from the regular houseplants are a fun way to add some sparkle around your home at Christmastime.
4 || WRITE A HOLIDAY WORD OR MESSAGE ON THE SOLID BACK OF A THROW PILLOW
This is such an easy way to use what you have! This lumbar pillow has a watercolor floral pattern on the other side; to make a Christmas pillow, I typed PEACE in Word and then placed the pillow next to my computer to use as a guide. First I wrote the word really lightly in pencil, then went over it with a silver metallic Sharpie and filled it in.
How easy is that, and did I mention, free??
5 || FUR-IFIY EVERYTHING IN SIGHT
If you are like me, you have amassed lots of Christmas STUFF over the years that may be wearing out their welcome. I love the stockings we have used year after year since our kids were babies, but I’m tired of decorating with red, so last year I used a few dots of glue to attach strips of furry fabric to them to give them a whole new look (check out the quick tutorial here). A letter ornament from Target’s dollar aisle is hung with each stocking to identify to whom Santa should leave treats (also known as socks 🙂 )
Take a look at your old Christmas decor and see if there is anything you can breathe new life into with some fun (inexpensive) furry fabric!

I love putting wrapping paper on everything, from cabinet backing to book covers! Inexpensive with a lot of added Holiday pizzaz! Love all your tips, and I try to do most of them, I just think I need to add more greens on mine, the only problem is, they sell them too late for me so I end up with just a few in my home, esp. this coming house tour! Hope my first live tree will do the job of that. 🙂

Yes, yes, yes! Fresh evergreens everywhere! My family would love me if I put a little candy out – gotta do this! Thanks so much for inviting me to join the group this month Lisa!

Great ideas…the fresh greens really give a festive feel. I am actually attempting to bloom an amaryllis this year. Hopefully there will be flowers by Christmas but I don't exactly have a green thumb so we will see…

I love that Christmas pillow that you DIYed but my favorite tip is putting out the treats! You're so right that it's little things like that that make the holidays special for the kiddos – it's officially on my holiday to-do list 🙂
Cassie @ Primitive & Proper says

All wonderful ideas, Lisa! I love leaving out jars of candy, too. (Ribbon candy and peppermint puffs are so pretty!) Can't wait to see more of your home in it's Christmas finery!

What a clever idea to write script on the solid back of a pillow! I agree one can't have too many greens either!!

Love all these ideas!!! XO

Quick and easy is about my speed this year! Love that first tip – we also keep our extra branches and I use them to fill up vases. One thing I love about our new home is that we have bushes with big bunches of red berries – perfect for adding to those pine branch arrangements. Now I guess I need to dig up a pretty bowl to fill with candy… for the holidays, of course.
