Design-savvy friends, I have to tell you about this cool piece of furniture belonging to my parents-in-law.
Pardon the phone photo, but here is a quick pic I snapped on moving day:
We can't find a place for it in their new home, and I thought it was a little too contemporary for my taste, so I told my parentsIL that I'd sell it for them on Craigslist. To price it, I did a bit of Google-surfing and discovered this table is actually a really hip vintage piece.
It turns out this cocktail table is a replica of the Barcelona table designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1930. The table has won The Museum of Modern Art Award (1977) and the Design Center Stuttgart Award (1978). Authentic Barcelona tables, identified by a stamp on the bottom of the base, are manufactured exclusively by Knoll Studio and retail for $1606 at Design Within Reach, with early editions selling for much more.
The replicas sell on eBay, Craigslist and through dealers for up to $600 depending on condition.
After researching the piece and finding it in some beautiful designs, I am WISHING I had room for it in my own house!

I can see this table in a beach house with a big piece of driftwood on it, or in a city apartment, stacked with design books.
Kind of cool right?

No, not kinda cool. Very cool. I'd call that a "keeper".
Have a wonderful weekend, Lisa!

Great piece Lisa....I just don't have room! You can't find a spot for it?? I think it looks so much less contemporary styled in those rooms! It's amazing what a little mix of decor can do!
Happy weekend!
i think you need to save it for your daughter when she has an apartment and can be super cool! :)
I might move the sofa out to keep it! :) Love those inspiration photos! Do you know Erin Gates at EOS, you should email her, it totally looks like something she would love!
Could you hold on to it? It really is a wonderful piece! You might have room for it a little while down the road....
It is VERY cool. What a great and versatile piece! xo Diana
Think really hard about this one. You can always sell it, but once it's gone...
Smart girl for doing your research first. Would have been a shame to let it walk for cheap then realize it was worth so much!
VERY cool! Good thing you did your homework on that piece!
