My Baby Girl Is Growing Up…And A Really Good Giveaway

Hannah starts her first day of middle school tomorrow.  Just like summer came and left in the blink of an eye, so I have watched my little girl turn into an adolescent over the last few months, suddenly interested in hair and makeup and dressing in something other than athletic shorts and a t-shirt.  Gone are the days of Hannah and her friends spending hours doing arts and crafts at my table, replaced with painting their nails, giving each other makeovers, and learning how to do a waterfall braid on YouTube.

Even though Hannah isn't allowed to wear much in the way of makeup outside of the house yet (she's only twelve - plenty of time to be a grown up ahead of her!) I am overjoyed that she is at long last taking an interest in her hair.  Since she was just a wee little thing, nary a brush nor comb could come close to that head without a complete meltdown ensuing from my usually quiet and sweet baby girl.  Baby barrettes would be found all around the house, ripped out by tiny little fingers.

Around three my feisty girl discovered she actually liked bows and barrettes, but only if she put them in….meaning clipped randomly all over her head.  Do you have a strong willed munchkin like this too?

It was a battle I learned early on not to spend my energy on - painful for a mama that dreams of French braiding her little girl's gorgeous head of hair.   But apart from Hannah's strong opinions about her appearance, she's also thoughtful, cooperative and a joy to be around.   I'd rather focus on who she is than what she looks like.  And even though this feistiness of Hannah's is sometimes hard to mother - it's also one of my favorite things about this girl.  But I wouldn't mind if her hair was brushed once in a while.

Enter the adolescent phase of life.  What's that adage - be careful what you wish for? Now that head of hair that has been woefully neglected is suddenly the object of hours of washing, drying, straightening, curling, braiding.  And I'd be lying if I told you I'm not enjoying this newfound interest Hannah has in her hair!

While I don't do product reviews very often, the timing couldn't have been more perfect to try Dove's Intensive Repair Daily Treatment Conditioner, now that my little lady is finally taking an interest in her locks.  {And for the record, I only share with you my honest opinion about a product.}  Since we spent the summer swimming in pools, the lake and the ocean, Hannah's hair was getting really snarly and dry.   We already use Dove soap and body wash, so I was interested in giving the hair products a try, particularly since Hannah has been asking me for a good shampoo and conditioner.

A hair stylist gave me the tip of using a wide-tooth comb to distribute the conditioner through the hair.  Both Hannah and I have a lot of hair and can't even get a brush through our hair if we don't condition, but we find some conditioners are kind of heavy and make the roots greasy.  I'm happy to report that we've both been using the Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner with the wide-tooth comb, and the combination has been great for preventing snarls and keeping our hair smooth.  It is not heavy and waxy like some conditioners and keeps our hair from being frizzy, especially over these past few summer months.  Hannah loves the shampoo and conditioner.  In fact, we spent about 10 minutes smelling all the different varieties at Target just yesterday before we chose one!

I love when Hannah's hair is clean and natural and hanging loose down her back.  Have I mentioned to you before how I need to freeze time?  Can I just keep this girl twelve???  Okay, thank you.

Now that summer is over, how would you like a little beautification?

I didn't realize that we both had first time middle schoolers! My guy is loving it so far. And, our girls sound like two peas in a pod! Can't tell you how I cringe when looking at her hair most of the time. I just came in from helping her clean her room, where I found about 20 pony tail holders strewn about everywhere...no wonder we can't find one in the drawer! Time goes by too fast..

Aww, wish I had a feisty, sweet little girl, (not in place of, just in addition to)! She has gorgeous hair, no wonder you're a tad excited for her to be into it! We've all used Dove soap forever, but haven't ever tried the other products, thanks for the tips.

What gorgeous hair she has! I hope she appreciates that beautiful color! I'm with you on wanting to freeze time - it's slipping away and I don't like it one bit!

Lisa....if only we could keep them young forever! Your daughter's hair is gorgeous! I tried to enter the sweepstakes, but it asks for a prompt, an answer to a question...not sure what to put!

My daughter also has
gorgeous, thick hair
and it shines like crazy.
Mine doesn't shine like
that anymore, so I will
give this product a try!
I've been a Dove soap girl
since I was a teen : )

I'd like to tell you that it
won't go fast, but girlie,
I'd be lying....just hang
on for the ride and ENJOY.

My feisty little girl started high school this year! I'm not only wishing to stop time, but maybe even rewind a little. My girl wouldn't even let me brush her hair when she was little, but now things are very different. She donated to locks of love this summer and she is missing her long hair, but she still spends plenty of time with her flat iron in the morning. Your daughter's hair is gorgeous by the way!! Love your blog!

Well said Lisa! Hannah's hair is gorgeous! I also like Dove's approach to marketing toward girls/women.

P.S. We might have similar curly hair.

She has beautiful hair! My daughters are still in the feisty stage where they complain if a brush comes anywhere near their head. While I want to keep them young, I'm a teeny tiny bit envious that your daughter is into doing her hair :) I know I will miss these tomboy days, but could they at least brush their hair!!!
