{Summer Fun List} Making Gak

This spring Sean made Gak at school and has been begging me ever since to make it at home.

This is a fun activity for all ages - there's something attractive about this slimy concoction; even the older kids and adults around here feel the need to play with it!  It's so easy to make and if you store it in a ziploc bag it will stay indefinitely.  {Just don't let it near carpets or upholstery.}

How To Make Gak
You'll need:
8 oz. glue
1 teaspoon Borax*
Food coloring
Water
Mixing bowl
Spoon
*if you don't have Borax, you can also use liquid starch.  Check out this recipe.

Directions:
*Pour entire bottle of glue into mixing bowl, then fill up bottle with water, shake, and add water to bowl.
*Add food coloring and combine.   (You can separate into several different bowls and add different colors to each.)
*Next, combine 1/2 cup warm water with the Borax and stir.
*While stirring the glue, add the Borax solution, a little at a time until you achieve the desired consistency.  We used our hands for this!
My kids wanted to play with the color after we mixed up a neon green batch, so I divided it up and they  added other colors to the slime.
They loved that this one looked like brain - gross!
Eventually the ones that had a lot of food coloring added to them ended up looking like this:

Cheap, easy and entertaining - I highly recommend for a rainy or too-hot-to-be-outside kind of day!

I can feel the slime oozing through my fingers! We love it! You made me remember a b-day cake I made for my mom when I was little, I thought a nice mix of food coloring would be pretty...yep, gray! :)
