Mambo Number 5

"Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is Mambo Number 5.....
A little bit of Monica in my life,
A little bit of Erica by my side,
A little bit of Rita's what I need,
A little bit of Tina's what I see."

Oh sorry, sorry, where was I?  Every time I talk about my number 5, this song pops into my head!

Remember this gallery wall in my kitchen that was *almost* complete?

I finally got my act together to finish this wall.  I'm a good project-starter.....finisher, not so much.
 I'm pretty sure my husband thought I went off the deep end when he walked into the kitchen to find me decoupaging newspaper to a wooden number five.

"5" for the number in our family {unless you ask my youngest, who counts the dog, so let me clarify and say that "5" represents the number of humans in our immediate family.}

I bought a cheapy unfinished number 5 at Michaels and gave it a quick coat of Kilz spray primer.  When the primer dried I Mod Podged newspaper to it.

I actually did cut out pieces of feel-good articles even for the base, because I don't need to see words like "gangs", "gun" or "robbery" on my kitchen wall, thankyouverymuch.  The community and travel sections came in quite handy.

I cut the print into manageable strips, painted each one with Mod Podge and wrapped them around the number until it was mostly covered, then flipped through the paper and found some bolder happy words and phrases.  It helped tremendously that I did this little crafty goodness during Valentines week (maybe I overdid "love" just a wee bit....I think the word appears four times!)

I also added this photo of a sign marking my dad's village in Mayo, Ireland.  It's so special to me and also I am a big fan of any words, letters and numbers.  It's a sickness really.  This was the perfect way to finish off this gallery wall.

Can I hear an amen for finishing a project that I started 4 months ago?
I love that the number 5 is unique and a bit whimsical for this fun family wall.

While I was at it, I also finished another (black & white) gallery wall in my living room that I'll share with you soon!  Thanks so much for visiting.....have the most excellent day!

I'm linking my decoupaged Mambo Number 5 to these parties - thank you for hosting!
